Float or Sink

Today we talked about the Scientific Method. The students asked the question: Will an Oreo float or sink? Eight kids thought it would float, 10 said an Oreo will sink. Our plan: place the Oreo in a dish of water. Our conclusion: Oreos SINK. The Oreo began to float, but soon took a dive to the bottom of the dish.

How long will it take for an Oreo to completely saturate? We made predictions, but we are still watching the Oreos waiting for an answer.

OREO Days

It's time to stack cookies. How many Oreos can we stack? The students made predictions and their partner used a tally graph to record the number of Oreos that were stacked. Was their prediction correct? Most guessed low and actually stacked more Oreos than they thought they could. Round two is tomorrow. What strategies can they think of to make their second stack even taller?

The class recorded how they like to eat Oreos. Most groups like to dunk their Oreo. In fact, as of right now, 18 students like to dunk, two like to twist and one likes to eat it whole.

Here are some storm posters. The students worked very hard and were very proud of their projects. Great work second graders!
